NJDC 2011 Results

The sixth Northern Junior Debating Championship took place on Saturday 24th September. 52 teams from across the country took part.

The preliminary motions were as follows:
Round one: This House Believes That Public Services are Best Provided By Private Companies (pre-released)
Round two: This House Would Reintroduce the Death Penalty
Round three: This House Would Ban the Publication of Information about Celebrities' Private Lives Without Their Consent

The final was compromised of teams from TWGGS A, CNHS, George Heriot's, and Robert Gordon's College, debating the motion This House Would Break the Law to Protect the Environment. The high quality final was judged by Roger Cotes, NJDC's founder and the panel's chair, along with Tahleel Lateef, Ben Woolgar, Stephen Jamieson, and Andrew Beaverstock.

The winners were George Heriot's School, who also topped the team tab. The top speaker on tab was Charlie Holmes, from the victorious George Heriot's team. The speaker tab is available to download now.

I would like to thank all of the people who put so much time and effort into making NJDC 2010 a success: our chief adjudicator, Natalie Smith, who chose varied and very exciting motions for every round and who invited and managed all of our wonderful judges; our tabmaster, Michael Plygawko, who expertly processed all of the results and helped us to finish so promptly; our judges, many of whom travelled long distances to lend us their expertise for the day; and the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle for kindly hosting NJDC once again.

Thanks also to all of our competing schools and their coaches/supporters that brought them.

We'll be back next year for NJDC 2012 and we hope to see many of you again then.

Best wishes,

Richard Coates
Convenor, NJDC 2011
